Happy Thanksgiving

I can't believe how quickly the time has flown! Thanksgiving already!!
I have so much to be thankful for =)

Just in case no one has said it to you yet...
Thank You to all of the AMAZING teachers in this world!

And for all of you parents out there, here's a little holiday humor...

Hope you have a happy and healthy holiday!!

Have you visited a school lately?

My new position has allowed me to see teaching in a whole new way. I have been a classroom teacher for 13 years and NEVER had the experience of visiting other schools to see what methods, techniques, models, (etc.) teachers use (or are required to use) in their school. I knew what I was doing in my classroom (how to differentiate/modify lessons to meet the needs of my students) and I knew what my principal's expectations were...that's all I needed to know! Right?

I now have the opportunity to meet with Teacher Leaders across the city. I visit their classrooms and help them to reflect on either the instructional strategy they chose to implement, or on the task they ask students to perform. This has really opened my eyes to what other teachers are doing across the city! Sometimes I wish I were back in the classroom myself so I could implement some of the strategies that I've been able to observe. It really is a shame that there isn't some type of system in place that allows (or requires) schools to partner with other schools to share ideas and observe best practices.

Yes, this is starting to happen. There are LPP schools (Learning Partner schools that work in a triad), and with the new TCP (Teacher Career Pathways) schools are starting to host inter-visitations with one another. However, I don't know if it's reaching as many teachers as it should be, or even if it's reaching them at a fast enough rate.

ANYWAY, I just want to share some pictures from inside some of the beautiful school buildings that I've been lucky enough to partner with...so enough babbling from me =)

Setting up Your iPad to your DOE email

I learned something new today and wanted to share. A colleague was reading her DOE email from her cell phone! I had no idea how this was possible (I'm not very techie...I know enough to get the job done and not much more). I asked her how she did it and she sent me the following pics, which I am now sharing with you =)

Most schools are beginning to request that memos be sent via email; morning announcements; ratings; and so much more. Just think - no more having to log in to see if you received an email to your DOE account. Now you'll be notified on your phone as soon as you get an email!

*This is in ADDITION to the email account that you already have set up! You do NOT have to choose one email account over another. You can access both (or more) from the same app =)

Hope this makes life a smidgen easier (at least!)

Taking on a New Role

I don't know about you, but I am EXHAUSTED! This year I'm taking on a new role and really looking forward to see what lies ahead for me. How many of you have heard of "Teacher Leaders?" (It's a new position within the DOE)
I will be responsible to help support 15 schools, including elementary, middle, and high school. I have been going through intensive training for the past 3 weeks from 8am - 4pm and I'm beat!!

I'm not sure how my material will change (being that my primary focus has always been elementary school) but I know it will change to include a wider audience.

Soooooo, if you notice that one day I'm blogging and sharing pic's about an elementary topic, and the following week I'm blogging about high school...this is the reason!

It's not because I decided to create a schizophrenzic blog =)

I think I'm going to print out this image and hang it up in my office...
